Pool in the garden: choosing the flooring

Piscina in giardino: scegliere la pavimentazione

Spring: space to design your new garden pool! This is the phase that most brings your desires and needs into play: overflow, skimmer, in-ground, above-ground pool.
What sizes? What shapes? What fittings?
And, speaking of fittings, have you already thought about and chosen the flooring for the pool edge?
For this detail you cannot only consider the aesthetic factor but also – and perhaps above all – you must carefully evaluate the functionality component.

Some essential characteristics: it is a good idea for the flooring next to the pool to be non-slip, to have drainage capabilities and to be resistant to sun and weather as well as to external agents (which for some materials can be aggressive, staining or ruining them).  Undoubtedly, it is also useful to find flooring that is easy to clean so that the area near the pool is always impeccable, free from leaves and other material that inevitably – being in the garden – can be deposited there, but also from mould and bacteria.
There are a multitude of floor coverings on the market with excellent performance, aesthetics and functionality. Let us look at the main ones together.

Deck or composite wood

Elegant, natural and capable of transmitting feelings of well-being and serenity. But also in need of careful and punctual maintenance. In fact, it is wood to all intents and purposes, and therefore a “living” material that must be scrupulously cared for: ordinary maintenance involves oiling the surface at least every six months and – in cases of the most extreme wear and tear – a sanding process.

WPC – Wood and Plastic Composite

The absolute most popular poolside flooring material. In every way similar to natural wood with the added bonus of excellent resistance to wear, fungus, lichen and mould.
This material is created from a combination of pulverised wood (from industrial processing waste) combined with a plastic material consisting of polymers and additives.
Aesthetically beautiful, cost-effective compared to wood and requires no special maintenance.

Natural stones

A timeless classic. The always popular idea is to lay natural local stones, with which to play in shape, colour and carving.
